Our World
The world has been changing for many years, ever since its existence in fact. But it wasn’t until humans came that it started turning for the worse. They crept up on the world, prowling silently, acting innocent, hiding the fact that they were going to unleash upon the world a plague vicious and terrible. And the world accepted them, like an innocent child trusting a dark stranger. We can’t blame the world. We can only blame ourselves.
Humans lived at peace with the earth for many years, forging themselves into the rounded camouflage that made their world. Then they ever so slowly started growing out, sharpening their edges, and not caring. They got disarray for the world and didn’t care about it. What was the plants and soil we depend on to politics and government? Why should we care about animals or their right to freedom?
But as the years wore on, out reasons got pettier. What is environment next to cheap transportation or television? Next to non-nutritious foods and entertainment? Why should we bother? Our own lives are so complicated, what with love, lust, friends, family, sickness, work, school, money…but they just don’t see. What they do effects everyone. Whether you like it or not, we’re all a team, and the penalty if we lose is our lives, all of them.
I remember a time when you saw a horse running free without a helicopter chasing after it. I remember a time when you saw a beautiful flower without picking it. I remember a time where you could see a great flowing river without pausing to think about how profitable it would be to build a dam on it. I remember a time when trees were king over the land. I remember a time when animals ate only what they had to eat. I remember a time when the land of this world wasn’t covered up by a cement cage. I remember a time when humans respected the things they hunt. I remember a time when the world was peaceful and well.
Some say it’s too late, some say we still have a chance, but we’ll never restore our world to its former, rugged beauty. We did it. We destroyed the world. And we’ve only been here for one millionth of its existence.
