In this thread, we'll compile a list of writing tips to go on the main site. They can be tips you've made up and found useful, random tips you've found around, or tips from author. But if you do know the person who created the tip(Including yourself), please include it as well.

One slightly obscure tip I heard from Jeremy Strong (Children's author) is that when you are trying to get your book published and are mailing it in. Keep in mind these publishers probably get about 25 or so of these a day. So make it stand out (I believe the specific way he did it was to use pink wrapping paper with horses on it), that way the publishers may be more inclined to read it before the others.
Not sure if it actually counts as a writing tip, but it can help with publishing.
